MLS Preview, Part 2

Our team of experts answer a few more of the questions we know you want the answers to...

What team will be the biggest surprise (positive):
Jon: Portland Timbers will make the leap this year to one of the teams people hate to play.
Dig: Vancouver..have arguably had the most active offseason of any team. Bulked up their porous defense with some quality defenders, and added some serious firepower. Don't know if they can hold it together for the entire season, but should be entertaining.
Roc: Vancouver... goals, goals, goals. Camilo, Hassli, Chiumiento, LeToux... maybe Omar Salgado and Darren Mattocks will contribute. DeMerit looking like the Boss of all Bearded Bosses in the Back (that's called alliteration, Biotch). Should be a fun team to watch.
Joe: Vancouver
Dylan:  Timbers - growing pains over, top 5 finish

What team will be the biggest surprise (negative):
Jon: New England Revolution... even with Shalrie and Benny, i think they are in for a long, long season
Dig: Red Bulls..perform well in the regular season, start to stagger down the stretch, crash out of playoffs. I'm not sure if that storyline can be considered a surprise at this point, but I'm goin with it.
Roc: FC Dallas... Brek will hit a wall, Fereira will not be the same, no more Jackson, no Marvin Chavez. Schellas Hyndman may be a ninja wizard, but he wont be able to use that magic in MLS
Joe: Although I have RBNY at #1 in the East, I reserve the right to say that they'll stink
Dylan:  LAG - We expect everything from them so anything short of that will be a disappointment to many

What player is likely to move to Europe:
Jon: I think Brek Shea and Freddy Montero are both in their final MLS season
Dig: Brek Shea..I can just hear Klinsmann whispering in his ear from hear that he must go abroad. Think he'll take that bait eventually if he preforms well
Roc: Juan Agudelo
  Joe: Brek Shea
Dylan:  Sir Landon for Everton!

What team is likely to sign a big name DP:
Jon: Montreal and NYRB will both make a huge addition to their squad
Dig: All indications point to the Red Bulls looking to sign a 3rd DP this year. Gonna have to go with that, which will only add to the story lines and potential for despair.
Roc: : Montreal... Saputo seems to be an ambitious dude and he ain't scared to throw down some cash. The dairy world has been good to him. I could see NYRB and Chicago going for it too.
Joe: RBNY

Who will the next big name DP be:
Jon: DelPierro
Dig: Del Piero seems like he is the obvious candidate...but could Drogba be the one? Im tempted to say yes.
Roc: This one is hard, I mean who would have predicted Vancouver signing Barry Robson? Maybe DelPiero will come over (NYRB). I would love to see Drogba (CHI). Now that Rangers is having their going out of business sale, perhaps we will see 'Los Blackmouth or Abba's favorite Jersey Jerk, Alejandro Bedoya
Joe: Del Piero

  1. Well, it looks like Chicago pulled the trigger first, Arne Friedrich. Not sure if he is a DP but I hope not. Dude has not played in a year because of a bad back... not good.

  3. I have thought about the DP question a little more... I think that Houston will try desperately to bring in a "name" forward to help sell out their stadium. So add Houston to the list of likely to get a DP.

As far as name, likely a recognizable name from Mexico. Not a huge name, but one we will know.
